Let’s start simple! Some people looking for ideas for their flower beds look at my garden and they are overwhelmed. I don’t blame them, sometimes I am over-whelmed, esp this time of year when pruning and maintenance is needed. So here’s a little vignette I see many times a day on my way to the potager (6 raised beds for flowers and vegetables) and on my way to the chicken coop. The white flower on the left and bottom is alyssum. The pink/yellow flower is lantana. The blue/purple flower is salvia Victoria blue. The rose is “Just Joey”, a buttery yellow initially which turns to a peach color as it ages. The yellow flower barely visible bloomed a little earlier – it is rudbeckia. The white alyssum and pink/yellow lantana are interesting together because of a similar shape and different color. The other colors set against the green leaves of the lantana provide a peaceful scene that makes me smile each time I walk by. This is all planted in an area maybe 2 feet by 4 feet. If you feel overwhelmed with what to plant, start with a small space like this.
