The Lost Gardens of Heligan

This garden is another UK treasure located in Cornwall. It has a fascinating history; started in the 18th century by the English Tremayne family, the garden was essentially abandoned after World War 1 and was ‘lost’ until a major restoration started in the 1990’s. The gardens feature over 60 acres of woodland, a productive garden, a jungle, a farm, and a giant rhododendron tree. Heligan also provides a rare combination of a beautiful garden and garden history. An example is the Pineapple Pit. Growing pineapples in manure-heated pits was a competitive venture amongst the rich in the middle 1800’s. If you’re in the Cornwall don’t miss this fantastic garden.
