We love our garden, we toil in it, we weed, fertilize, dig, amend soil, and plant. We love it. So we should have fun in our garden, too! We won’t do much gardening in this blog. A playful touch that will surprise you and visitors to your garden, and maybe make you laugh. But just maybe it will stir your creativity and you’ll find something to add a laugh to the beauty in your garden. Here is one of my favorites, “laugh a lot”. Great advice, whether in the garden or not. And second is my garden gnome. He’s a fun surprise hiding by the tree.
This next picture is a sign on my garden room door, maybe a little sexist, but oh well! Most everyone chuckles. It was given to me by longtime friends who know I don’t do any gardening on my knees – especially since my knee replacements in 2019!
My last picture for today’s fun is a picture from one of my client’s gardens. Amidst a beautiful display of flowers are these 3 antique toy construction vehicles. They are toys that her son played with and her grandkids too. What a fun memory! This can rekindle the childhood fascination in all of us. It worked for Don who wanted this picture – he played in the dirt with them, and he relived moving dirt as a kid with the Tonka Toys, back when they were made of metal. His fascination even led him to google the antique Mighty Tonka Dozer shown here. You can buy a used one on E-bay with a little rust for $90!
Another item in my garden is a swing set that brings back fond memories for me. I remember seeing this fun swing set in Auntie Grace’s garden back in 1976 when I first moved to the Sacramento area. It was at least 20 years old then! I was delighted when she gave it to me a couple years ago to add to my garden treasures!
Maybe you can enjoy adding some fun and laughter and even some silliness to your garden!
Next time we’ll return to some real gardening and talk about wine barrel planters.
