Project Description
Welcome to Singapore Botanical Gardens
OK, getting to Singapore to visit this garden may be a long trip, but the gardens in Singapore are so spectacular, I’d like to help you surreptitiously visit there. And if we’re still distancing, this will provide some happy flower therapy. And don’t’ forget to visit their site. nparks.gov.sg/SBG
We visited there in late February 2020 to see family, just before travel shutdowns would have made the trip impossible.
The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a tropical garden founded over 160 years ago. It is near Singapore’s Orchard Road shopping district and it is extensive in size. We spent two trips there and didn’t see all of it. It claims to be the only tropical garden designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is home to more than 10,000 plants including large displays of orchids, palms, and ginger. Or you can enjoy Heliconia Way. The bright orange flower below is (we think) the heliconia golden torch. You also will recognize the plumeria here that sometimes is commonly referred to as frangipani. Hawaiian leis commonly use plumeria for its fragrance, which by the way, is strongest at night to attract the sphinx moth.
If you have kids with you, the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is a must. We had a 1-year old and 2-year old grandkids with us on one of the trips and they loved it.
