This is such an exciting time in the garden. Every day new blooms are opening with new colors.
This blog covers three of the current blooms I just found. The first is the Asiatic Lily.
These majestic blooms sit atop stems up to 4 feet in length. I planted mine on a slight slope so drainage is good. These lilies should also have at least 6 hours of sunshine each day. Fertilizing with a high potassium liquid is recommended every 2 weeks until a month and a half after flowering. These plants have been thriving for several years and have never been fertilized.
The next picture includes one of my beloved alstroemerias.
The dark-leafed pineapple lily with its long brown leaves provides a great background and contrast to the Indian Summer alstroemeria. If you’ve followed my blog, you know that alstroemerias are one of my favorite plants, because they are stunning in the garden and provide blooms almost year-round for flower arrangements in our house. You’ve heard this from me before….if you don’t have alstroemerias in your garden….WHY NOT?
Amidst all the colors, sometimes a unique plant shape with no bright colors can be beautiful. The blue-leafed heavy textured Hosta leaf is a fun contrast in a shade garden. This area of my garden gets no direct sun. This Hosta has just finished blooming, but the blooms (usually white or light lavender) are insignificant compared to the leaves.
